Sunday November 14, 2021, marks World Diabetes Day.
As we celebrate in the midst of the Covid -19 pandemic, let’s not forget the issues of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which continue to ravage communities and churches. Many studies and clinical trials have shown that Type 2 Diabetes, which is responsible for most of the amputations, blindness, kidney, and heart failure among other complications, is largely preventable and reversible through diet and lifestyle modifications.
According to The World Health Organisation (WHO), about 1.5 million deaths worldwide are directly attributed to diabetes each year. In Barbados, the prevalence of this disease is said to be 1 in every 5 adult persons. This is quite alarming.
In the book Counsels on Diet and Foods by E.G. White, we have been warned that disease never comes without a cause but through disregard of the laws of health. She says that “many are suffering, and many are going to their grave because of the indulgence of appetite”.
Let’s cut out our sugary treats and those fried and fatty foods and ask God to take control of what we eat so we can all enjoy a healthy life and a vigourous spiritual experience. Let’s remember always that, “ I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me” Phil 4:13.
