More Reminders From God
As I read and study my Bible and other inspirational books, I ask God to speak to me or show me what He would have me see and give me the courage and strength to apply what I learn. Over time, I've seen many answers to my requests, and I’m working on application, like right now. I'm doing my part to share Jesus with all those who will read this blog. I will share with you some reminders I've found in God’s Word that show that God loves, is interested in and wants to save us.
Rainbows – In Genesis 9:11-16 God made a covenant with Noah that He would never again send water to flood and destroy all flesh. Remember that promise is also ours today, whenever you see a rainbow in the sky.
Enoch – He was translated without seeing death. God took Enoch to heaven, according to Hebrews 11:5, because Enoch pleased God. Enoch lived in the time before the flood, where we are told in Genesis 6:5, the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Yet Enoch, had such a close relationship with God. Our world is fast becoming like in the days of Enoch and Noah. Be reminded today that though we live in this world, we don't have to conform but we can be transformed, by nurturing our relationship with Jesus, and live our lives in such a way that we please God.
Manna – Exodus 16:11-31 records that God sent what the Israelites called manna (manna means “what is it?” – The King James Study Bible, pg 129) to feed them while they were in the wilderness. Every morning, for five days, they were to collect only what they could eat for that day. On the sixth day, they were to collect a double portion which they would use for that day and the following day which was the Sabbath. They were to spend the time in worship and praise to God, resting from their weekly work and not worrying about anything. So be reminded that God set apart and blessed the Sabbath, the seventh day, to give man the opportunity to come into His presence, to worship and praise Him and be refreshed. God will also always supply our need (Philippians 4:19).
Image – The story of Nebuchadnezzar's dream about the image in Daniel 2, and the interpretation, along with history, show us without a shadow of a doubt that God is in control of His world. Kings and kingdoms have risen and fallen just like in the king’s dream. Only the part with the image being hit at the base by a stone and crumbling, wind blowing the pieces away and the stone becoming a mountain and filling the whole earth, representing God’s kingdom, is yet to be fulfilled. God is reminding us that He is always in control and He is setting up His kingdom and He wants us to be a part of it.
Nathan – The prophet Nathan was God’s man who took his appointment from God seriously, delivering not so good news and messages of rebuke to King David (see 2 Samuel 12:1-13). God is reminding us that we can be our brother’s keeper, by encouraging each other to live up to the high standard that He has set for us and not being afraid to call sin by its right name.
David – Even after David’s fall from grace, God still called David a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22) because he realized how sinful he was and repented, asking God for forgiveness, cleansing and a new heart (Psalm 51). 1 John 1:9 is God's reminder to us that even though we have done wrong, regardless of what it was, if we confess, He is faithful and just and will forgive and cleanse.
Esther – An orphaned girl who became queen, Esther risked her life to save her people from annihilation (Esther 4 & 5). She sought guidance from the Lord and placed her life in His hands when faced with possibly the greatest responsibility placed upon her. Be reminded today that we can seek God’s guidance when making decisions and trust that the outcome will be God’s best for us (Romans 8:28).
Ruth and Rahab – Originally a Moabitess, Ruth became a follower of God after her marriage to a man, an Ephrathite from Bethlehem-judah. After his death she chose to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi and went to live with her on her return to Bethlehem (Ruth 1). Ruth subsequently married Boaz (Ruth 4).
Rahab - Though originally known for her unsavory lifestyle, Rahab believed in the God of Israel after hearing of His miraculous deeds and defeat of the surrounding nations (Joshua 1). She chose to unite with the people of God and she and her family were saved from death when Jericho was conquered by the Israelites (Joshua 6:25).
Both Ruth and Rahab are listed in the genealogy of Jesus; Ruth as David’s great grandmother (Ruth 4:13-22) and Rahab his great great grandmother (Matthew 1:5 & 6). God is reminding us today that the circumstances of our birth do not determine our future. We can choose to serve God and live for Him and allow Him to use us for His glory.
Sanctuary – God told Moses in Exodus 25:8, ‘And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. That earthly sanctuary was patterned after the heavenly sanctuary (Hebrews 8: 1 & 2 and 5). As the High Priest ministered in the earthly sanctuary, interceding on behalf of the people before God, Jesus is our High Priest, who is now in the heavenly sanctuary interceding on our behalf before God, the Father (1 John 2:1 & Hebrews 4:14-16; 8:1). Be reminded that Jesus understands what is it like to be tempted and He has made provision for us in case we fall. God wants us to be fit to dwell with Him in heaven.
